Controller – Naples

Monzingo Legal has partnered with a law firm in Naples, Florida, on their Controller position. The Controller is responsible for accounting operations and related controls, including the production of periodic financial reports and maintenance of a system of accounting records. This position sets comprehensive controls, secures and enhances the accuracy of the firm’s reported financial results, and ensures that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles and US financial reporting standards. This position is responsible for managing, reviewing, and overseeing all accounting policies and procedures, including non-transactional accounting activities, as well as financial operations processes and duties, including general ledger, account payables, account receivables, and cash management. The Controller will utilize the firm’s time, billing, and accounting software to record transactions and prepare reports as directed by the owner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Planning, directing, and coordinating all accounting operational functions, including general ledger, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and trust accounting functions for the Law Office, its Title Company, and the owner’s personal accounts and investments.
  • Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results.
  • Design and maintain a coherent system of accounts with supporting physical and digital filing systems.
  • Provide owner and senior management with management reports regarding performance against financial plans, forecasts, and cost-benefit analyses.
  • Develop and maintain short and long-term financial plans, and operating benchmarks, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Create and maintain financial models for various aspects of the businesses.
  • Manage and maintain month-end closing processes.
  • Planning the expenditures, analyzing variances, and carrying out necessary corrections that may arise.
  • Maintain bank relationships including complying with loan agreements and assisting with the preparation of the necessary documents.
  • Establish and monitor procedures for record-keeping.
  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement, and implementing new processes.
  • Ensure security, integrity, and confidentiality of data.
  • Assists the firm’s fractional CFO with the timely preparation and filing of tax returns.
  • Make recommendations to management on cost savings to the Firm.
  • Perform other related duties as needed or assigned.

  • Understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes, and other related matters
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, and exercise discretion and good judgment

Qualifications

  • Use analytics and development of key spreadsheets for business analysis
  • Be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization
  • High-quality work product with accuracy and attention to detail
  • High level of initiative and the ability to prioritize multiple projects
  • Team player with a positive attitude
  • Highly Organized

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • Minimum 5 years of accounting experience
  • Must be proficient in GAP accounting, methods, and best practices
  • Must be proficient in QuickBooks
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook skills

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Compensation

$120,000 – $140,000 DOE plus benefits
