Human Resources Manager – Connecticut
Join a law firm with growth opportunities. This southwest Connecticut law firm is seeking a dynamic individual with the skills and experience to build out a high-performing HR department. The HR Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the law firm’s human resources functions, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, and fostering a positive workplace environment.
This HR role involves strategic planning, employee relations, policy development, talent acquisition, and compliance with employment laws and regulations. The HR Manager plays a key role in nurturing company culture and driving employee engagement.
The HR Manager reports to the Director of HR and Operations and manages the HR team with three to four direct reports. This position is onsite and occasional travel may be required.
Key Responsibilities
Talent Acquisition and Onboarding:
- Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract top talent.
- Manage the end-to-end hiring process, including posting job openings, interviewing candidates, backgrounding, and preparing and extending offers.
- Oversee the onboarding process to ensure new employees are integrated smoothly into the company.
Employee Relations and Engagement:
- Act as a trusted advisor to employees and management on HR-related matters.
- Mediate and resolve workplace conflicts in a fair and consistent manner.
- Develop initiatives to promote employee engagement, recognition, and retention.
- Oversee company employee event planning.
Performance Management:
- Implement and manage performance appraisal systems to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
- Support managers in setting performance objectives and addressing underperformance.
Policy Development and Compliance:
- Develop and maintain company policies and procedures in compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws.
- Comply with multi-state labor laws where the firm may operate outside of CT.
- Ensure the organization adheres to workplace safety, anti-discrimination, and equal opportunity regulations.
Training and Development:
- Identify training needs and help coordinate professional development programs for staff.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and career growth.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Administer and oversee employee compensation and benefits programs.
- Work with benefits brokers on renewals and enhancements.
- Conduct periodic reviews to ensure competitiveness and alignment with industry standards.
HR Metrics and Reporting:
- Track and analyze key HR metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of HR programs.
- Present reports to senior management with actionable insights.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in human resources, with at least 3-4 years in a management role.
- Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in HRIS software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) is a plus.
- CLM is a plus.
- Law firm experience.
- A background in HR management of a professional services firm is preferred.
